Formatting rows, columns, or cells

Use the Property inspector or the Modify > Table commands to format rows, columns, or cells. Right-click (Windows) or Control-click (Macintosh) in the desired row, column, or cell to choose a formatting command from the shortcut menu.

To format a row, column, or cell:

1 Move the cursor to a cell within the row or column you want to format.
2 Choose from the following options:
To format a row, click Table Row in the Property inspector, choose Modify > Table > Row Properties; or choose Row Properties from the shortcut menu.
To format a column, click Table Column in the Property inspector, choose Modify > Table > Column Properties; or choose Column Properties from the shortcut menu.
To format a cell, click Table Cell in the Property inspector, choose Modify > Table > Cell Properties; or choose Cell Properties from the shortcut menu.

Note: Changes made in the Column or Cell Properties dialog box override Table and Row properties.

3 Choose from the following options to format the row, column, or cell:
Horizontal Align to align the contents of the cells to the browser's default (usually left), left, right, or center.
Vertical Align to align the contents of the cells to the browser's default (usually middle), top, middle, bottom, or baseline.
Color Options to set the background and border colors for the cells. Setting light and dark border colors overrides the default border color.
4 Choose from the following layout options:
Don't Wrap Cell Contents to turn off word-wrapping so that cells expand in width to accommodate all of the data. When wrapping is turned on, cells expand horizontally to accommodate the longest word, and then expand vertically.
Row or Column Consists of Table Header Cells to format each cell as a table header. Table headers are bold and centered by default.
5 For columns, specify a Column Width in pixels or as a percentage of the table width.
In Dreamweaver, Column widths are only a guideline. Columns resize to fit content.
6 Click OK.
